Memorial Assistance Ministries

The purpose of Memorial Assistance Ministries (MAM) is to help families and individuals who find themselves in a crisis and in need of assistance to maintain self-sufficiency and avoid homelesness.  MAM is comprised and supported by a number of churches in our community of which John Knox Church is one of its members.

In addition, MAM sponsors a program for English as a Second Language (ESL), here at our church.  Classes are held during the academic year, August through May, on Mondays and Wednesday from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM.  The classes are taught by trained volunteers.

Fair Haven Food Pantry

Our church supports the Fair Haven Food Pantry.  It is one of the largest private food assistance programs in the greater Houston Area.  Its purpose is to provide short-term food aid to persons in need in our community.  In a typical week, 200 families, which include about 1,200 persons, receive food from the food pantry.  This indicates that food for 10,000 families or 60,000 persons is dispensed annually.

Mission Trip to China

In 2006, our church sent a mission delegation to China to learn about the Protestant Church in China and to explore possibilities of becoming a partner in mission with a small church.  In collaboration with the China Christian Council, we were led to support the construction of a new church in Qing Pu, a suburb of Shanghai.

Senior's Gathering Place
The Senior's Gathering Place meets monthly on the 4th Thursday for fellowship, entertainment and lunch.  It is hosted by the Women of John Knox Presbyterian Church.  This unique program is designed primarily for senior citizens in our church and surrounding community.  For more information, please call the church office at 713-462-5448.
Mission of Yahweh
The doors of Mission of Yahweh are always open for women and children in transition and crisis.  John Knox Church has been supporting this mission for a number of years because it is truly a unique refuge.  For over 43 years the Mission has empowered homeless and abused women and their children.  The mission not only provides food, clothing and shelter, but it is also committed to rehabilitating women to become self-sufficient, productive members of society.  The mission is located at 10247 Algiers, Houston, TX 77041.  Their phone number is 713-466-4785.
